Our Minister

The Amersham Circuit has two full time ministers working together with lay workers and a community worker (in Chesham).

The Circuit is also served by Local Preachers and Worship Leaders, and a number of volunteers in both organisation and adminstrative roles.

 Revd James Patterson

Revd James Patterson is the Minister with responsibility for Prestwood Methodist Church.

James hails from Guisborough in North Yorkshire. He studied car design at Northumbria University before becoming a self-employed graphic designer for ten years.

James has been a church goer from a young age, growing up in Guisborough Methodist Church where he served as a Church Steward and becoming accredited as a local preacher in 2018. He answered the call to ordained ministry in 2018, entering ministerial training in 2019 at the Queen’s Foundation in Birmingham. It was there he met his wife Angela, who is a Church of England curate in London.

James was ordained as a Presbyter in June 2024 at a ceremony in Bradford Cathedral.

James is passionate about sharing the love of God in the world, and encouraging people in their relationships to God in Christ Jesus, enabling a reawakening of their passion for God.

James enjoys walking, baking (mainly because of his sweet tooth), and loves cars, especially classic cars and in particular, Ford Anglias!
